Arizona Senator John McCain is joining Senate President Harry Reid, doctors from the Cleveland Clinic, the world’s two premiere boxing and four mixed martial arts groups, to support a brain trauma study by the noted medical center. McCain says the Professional Fighters Brain Health Study is essential to the future of boxing as a sport.

“If we don't do this, I'm afraid that support for these incredible entertaining sports will wane on the part of the American people, so this study is much called for,” McCain said.

The two sports have joined forces to commit $600,000 to the Cleveland Clinic’s brain health study in Las Vegas . The focus of the study is to understand the effects of repeated blows to the head.
