Arizona Game and Fish is investigating the deaths of two more of the Bighorn Sheep that were relocated to the
Spokesman Mark Hart says eight others have been killed by mountain lions and one died of a stress-related illness due to the move. Hart says each of the deaths is being investigated and he says the sheep are being monitored constantly with GPS tracking devices, something that has never been done before,
“So, we’re finding out real time information that used to take days, weeks, even months for wildlife managers to find out, if at all,” Hart said.
Hart says the technology may be making the sheep mortality look worse than it is. He says in the past, without the collars, Game and Fish might not find out about the deaths at all.
