The state Game and Fish Department said for the first time in a generation, bighorn lambs are being seen in the mountains near Tucson. A Game and Fish biologist spotted the apparently health lambs in the
Pusch Ridge Wilderness from a distance last week. The two lambs were close to their mothers.
The ewes are among 31 bighorn released in Catalina State Park on Nov. 18, after being relocated from the mountains of western Arizona.
Game and Fish Supervisor Raul Vega called the births a milestone in the project to restore the sheep population in the Catalinas.
Hikers are being advised to avoid the sheep recovery area, during lambing season, which generally runs through the month of April.
