Arizona’s K-12 schools were hit hard by the economic downturn, which led to deep budget cuts at the state Capitol. Last week, state schools Superintendent John Huppenthal, a former lawmaker, gave his 2014 State of Education address. He talked about competitiveness and funding, among other things.

We talked with Superintendent Huppenthal about those issues before reports that he had voiced a robocall telling parents about the possibility of using taxpayer money to send their kids to private schools. Arizona Education Association President Andrew Morrill also talked his vision for the state’s K-12 schools and how additional funding would and should be used.
