The Super Bowl is still a year away in Arizona, but planning is already underway to ensure security is tight during the game and festivities. Glendale Police are working with federal authorities and said they will be ready when Super Bowl 49 is played at Cardinals stadium on February 1, 2015.
Police spokesman Jay O’Neill said they are developing a strategy with the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies.
The counterparts here in the Valley have spoken with their counterparts that were present and actively involved in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing and learned some very valuable information, and they are going to apply that information to this event as well as any large scale event we have here in the Valley," O'Neill said.
He said he cannot share many details about the security measures, but O'Neill said Glendale police plan to take advantage of new surveillance technology that did not exist the last time Arizona hosted a Super Bowl in 2008.
