Weekend Sees Record-Breaking Temperatures

The Valley saw record breaking heat this weekend. Mark O’Malley is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix . He said Saturday’s high of 86 degrees broke the previous record of 83 degrees set in 1977, and Sunday tied the previous record of 84 degrees, also set in 1977. But, O’Malley said the heat is not exactly here to stay.

“It will cool down a little bit through the middle of the week, and by Wednesday and Thursday we’re only expecting temperatures in the mid to upper 70s," O'Malley said.

He said the biggest concern is the lack of rain.

“We haven’t had rain in the Phoenix metro area since December 20, and we really could use some before the end of the winter season, so keep your fingers crossed," O'Malley said.

For Monday, the weather is expected to remain dry and hot with a high in the mid-80s.
