Saving The Citrus, Sun City Neighborhood Says Goodbye

A neighborhood in Sun City is saying goodbye to one of Arizona’s legendary five “Cs”—citrus—and replacing orange trees with xeriscape and plants like lantana and ocotillo that use less water. But, the presence of citrus trees can provide some cooling respite from our sizzling summers and the urban heat island effect.

State Climatologist Nancy Selover and historian Philip VanderMeer talked about citrus in Arizona.
