Race For Arizona Governor 'Wide Open'

A new poll finds no clear leader in this year's race for Arizona governor, on either side of the aisle.

The firm Public Policy Polling asked nearly 900 Arizona voters who they would like to see elected. It found that 34 percent of GOP voters are undecided. Secretary of State Ken Bennett polled at 20 percent, businesswoman Christine Jones at 16 percent and Mesa Mayor Scott Smith at 12 percent.

"None of these candidates are people who Arizona Republicans are particularly familiar with at this point," said Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling. "Andrew Thomas had the highest name recognition of any of the candidates, somewhat dubiously, but even in his case only 40 percent of voters were familiar with him, and for the rest of them it was even lower than that."

In a hypothetical general election, Democrat Fred DuVal polled behind Smith and Bennett but beat the remaining Republicans.

The survey also found that in a rematch of 2010's attorney general race, Democrat Felecia Rotellini has a six point lead over the incumbent, Republican Tom Horne.
