A California businessman is suing a Las Vegas casino for continuing to serve him drinks when he was blackout drunk. He lost a half-million dollars at the tables on Super Bowl weekend.
Mark Johnston, 52, is suing the Downtown Grand, for loaning him money and serving him drinks when he was visibly intoxicated. Nevada law bars casinos from allowing obviously drunk patrons to gamble and from serving them comped drinks.
Johnston’s attorney says the Grand intends to pursue Johnston for trying to shirk his gambling debts, after he put a stop-payment order on the casino credits he was issued by the Grand.
Johnston made his fortune in car dealerships and real estate ventures. He claims he didn’t learn he had lost $500,000 until the next day.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board is investigating.
