The Arizona Game and Fish Department has confirmed the deaths of two more of the Bighorn Sheep that were relocated to the mountains outside Tucson, late last year. Spokesman Mark Hart said they also removed a mountain lion they believe was responsible for some of those deaths.
“Well, we knew all along that we were going to have mortality. What I think we did not recognize was this many, that quickly," said Hart.
Hart said 15 of the 31 sheep that were reintroduced in the area have died, mainly at the hands of predators. However, he said three lambs have also been observed, and Game and Fish is hopeful others will be found.
