For the third time this year, an inmate has attacked a state prison guard. This time it happened in a minimum security unit at the Lewis Prison in Buckeye, according to Corrections Department spokesman Doug Nick.
“He was using what appears to be a bag weighted with something, struck the officer in the face and then as the officer went to the floor, continued striking that officer,” Nick said.
The officer was hospitalized with injuries to his head and face after the incident, just before 7 a.m. Thursday.
