Arizona voters would have to reauthorize ballot measures that require the spending of state money every eight years under a bill approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Phoenix Democrat Anna Tovar said the measure is detrimental to the people behind ballot initiatives.

“It dilutes the power of the people when it comes to the voting process, and one of my biggest issues as well is, it’s going to be very expensive for the stakeholders who advocate to have things on the ballot,” Tovar said.

If the House-passed bill wins approval in the full Senate, Arizona voters will decide if the periodic reviews are needed in November.
