The University of Arizona is eliminating its winter commencement ceremony. The university said students will now have just one opportunity a year to walk with their classmates at graduation. They said that will come at the end of the spring semester, starting this year.

The university, which has given no reason for the change, said students graduating in December will have the option of walking in May, either the semester before or after they complete their studies.

Campus officials said students will still get personalized attention at individual college convocations, which will continue to be held twice a year.

The 150th U of A commencement ceremony is to be held at Arizona Stadium on May 17.
