Arizona Vehicles Emission Tests Fee Will Decrease In July

Beginning in July, there is good news for Arizona motorists who have to have their vehicles emission tested. The cost of the tests is coming down. Trevor Baggiore of the Department of Environmental Quality said the cost will drop from $27.75 to $20 for vehicles built in 1981 or after.

“It’s not often that government organizations actually reduce fees, and so that’s why it’s really exciting to announce this change,” Baggiore said. “Ultimately, it’ll affect over a million motorists in the Phoenix area. It’ll reduce their fees by over 25-percent.”

Baggiore said another change on July 1 will be that if the vapor seal on your gas cap is the only thing causing a vehicle to fail the test, you will be provided a cap at that time to allow an immediate retest. He said that will have a great environmental benefit.
