Bill Banning Assisted Suicide Moves On To Senate Rules Committee

A bill that builds on Arizona’s ban on assisting with a suicide has been approved in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The measure makes it illegal to provide the means for someone else to commit suicide. Kathy Talbot, who supports the bill, said the suicide help group Final Exit provided online instructions to her depressed brother to help him carry out his suicide.

“It’s not just the dying who are using this information, and I think it’s time that we stop organizations from preying on the vulnerable," Talbot said. "And it’s time for them to face justice."

The bill’s opponents said the terminally ill should have the right to end it all with dignity when there is no more quality of life. The measure now goes to the Senate Rules Committee.
