Residents of a homeless camp along the Santa Cruz River, north of Tucson, left the area by Monday’s deadline. Lt. Bruce Westberg of the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said the property owner had expressed concerns about the camp even though some of the people living there said they had been squatting on the property for years.
“This is private property, this is owned by the company that’s there, and the idea that they hadn’t noticed these people up to that point, it seems unlikely,” Westberg said.
He said the private property owners had the right to have the homeless residents evicted. He calls it a win for both sides.
