Glass food and beverage containers will soon be prohibited in two public swimming areas in the Coconino National Forest.
Spokeswoman Brienne Magee said the ban, which starts April 1, affects Oak Creek and Fossil Creek.
“Broken glass containers are to blame for injuries, as well as litter, in many of the locations along these two streams," Magee said.
Magee said rangers will be looking for violations. She said violators could face a fine of $5,000 and/or six months in prison.
