The former leader of the Fiesta Bowl has been sentenced to three years of probation after his state conviction taking part in an illegal campaign contribution scheme.
It was the second sentencing for John Junker in the last two weeks. The 58-year-old was sentenced to eight months in prison last week for his conspiracy conviction on federal charges arising from the scandal. Junker has admitted his part in the scheme in which Bowl employees made contributions to political campaigns and were reimbursed at least $46,000 by the nonprofit bowl.
Prosecutors had originally planned to seek a three month jail sentence on the state charges but asked the court for four years of probation, because under his guilty plea agreement, the sentences were to run concurrently.
