Immigration Reform Unlikely This Year

Republicans in the Arizona congressional delegation say the chances of immigration reform being passed this year are virtually non-existent. They are blaming trust issues with President Barack Obama.

Senator John McCain says the president’s threat to use executive privilege on issues like immigration make it hard to pass any kind of compromise.

“The fact that the president threatens not to obey the law, gives all of us pause, because then does that mean he’s going to obey the law that we pass, and that includes border security,” McCain said.

Democrats maintain there are enough bipartisan votes in the House to pass immigration reform, if the speaker brings the matter up. They say, however, that is unlikely.
