A familiar Central Phoenix landmark will close its doors for good Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Karsh’s bakery, which started on Central Avenue in the 1960s before moving to 7th Street in 1985, was considered the place to get Jewish cookies, cakes and kosher goods. But increased competition, mostly from supermarkets, is leading to the end of Karsh’s.
Longtime Phoenician and former Arizona regional director for the Anti-Defamation League Bill Strauss said he did not see it coming.
