Plans are shaping up to honor the Granite Mountain hotshots who died last June fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire. Prescott officials are getting ready for the one-year anniversary.
19 men perished on June 30. Their deaths made international news. Now, about three months before the anniversary date, the city of Prescott has said how it will honor the firefighters. The city is planning a bell-ringing ceremony in the downtown Courthouse Square. It has also asked churches in town to ring their bells.
A Prescott spokesman said the names of the firefighters will be read at the courthouse at 4:42 p.m. That’s the time it is believed the 2,000 degree fire overcame the crew.
The taped memorial service will be re-broadcast on local cable channels.
