A recent state audit of tobacco retailers in Arizona has left the Department of Weights and Measures disappointed. Compliance Director Shawn Marquez said they checked 685 products at 44 stores and found 53 overcharges at the cash registers compared to the shelf price.
“You know you’ve got to have clear, concise pricing,” Marquez said. “It can’t be misleading, and if even the cashiers are confused, we’ve got issues.”
Marquez said the department issued $8,400 in fines for violations at convenience stores, truck stops, gas stations and smoke shops.
