New Fees For ASU Students To Begin Next School Year

ASU's Sun Devil Stadium is where the football team plays its games.

There will be a new fee for Arizona State University students next year. The Arizona Board of Regents voted Thursday for the additional charge that will go to athletics. Next year ASU students will have to pay a mandatory $150 fee that will go to sports teams.

Alec Mastov is a student at ASU who is paying his own way through school. He said he doesn’t want to foot the bill for the athletic department.

“It should remain a separate part of the university. Their source of revenue should be from their ticket sales and their partnerships with the PAC 12 and any television deals,” said Mastov.

The new fee will total $10 million a year for the athletic department. An ASU statement said the fees were proposed by student groups, and the money is to “support student engagement in athletics. Students will have access to all athletic contests at no cost.”
