Volunteers To Watch Campers For Fire Violations

Somebody may be watching you if you’re out in the forested areas around Coconino County. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Gerry Blair says once again this year volunteers will be keeping tabs on people who enter closed areas or violate fire restrictions.

“We’re just asking them to be eyes and ears, to be the best witness possible,” Blair said. “Call us as soon as they realize something isn’t right and let us make the contact with the people.”

Blair says the volunteers will go through some training, sign forms acknowledging their roles and will be outfitted in orange t-shirts. He says the idea is that the t-shirts may keep somebody from doing something that could cause a wildfire.
