Fourth Drug Tunnel Of The Year Shut Down In Nogales

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say they’ve shut down another drug smuggling tunnel under the Mexican border at Nogales.

ICE spokeswoman Amber Cargile says it was being built from a home just a few yards south of the border, but never opened into the United States.

“This tunnel is still under investigation and no arrests have been made yet,” Cargile said. “And, we didn’t encounter, or Mexican authorities didn’t encounter, any people or drugs inside the tunnel.”

Cargile says the tunnel was nearly 450 feet long, with only 60 feet of it in Mexico. It’s the 101st cross-border tunnel to be discovered in Nogales since 1990, including four this year.
