Woods Watch To Train Wildfire Spotters

You don’t have to have the title of fire lookout or sit in a little tower in the forest to spot wildfire activity. Officials in northern Arizona say they can teach you what to do.

They plan to start a series of training sessions known as Woods Watch in Flagstaff on Friday.

The one-hour sessions will teach participants how to properly report incidents that could spark a wildfire, like people sneaking into closed areas and disregarding fire restrictions.

Officials say they ongoing drought and windy conditions could cause fires to spread quickly, endangering lives and property.

About 100 people attended the Woods Watch training sessions in 2012.
