Three Areas Monitored After Wildfires Burn Over The Weekend

Forest officials across the state are monitoring at least three areas where wildfires have burned over the weekend. One is five miles southeast of Flagstaff where the Fisher Fire started Friday afternoon. It has grown to about 175 acres and is 75 percent contained. Coconino National Forest spokeswoman Heather Noel said firefighters are being helped by a blaze that burned across parts of the area last year.

“Whenever you have a footprint, as in a former thinned out area, a burn or a former wildfire, that does help to stop the progress or slow the progress, so firefighters can get ahead of it,” Noel said.

Firefighters also battled a small fire near Mormon Lake on Sunday, as well as one in the Huachuca Mountains near Sierra Vista in southeastern Arizona. No property was damaged and no injuries were reported in connection with any of the blazes.
