Fisher Fire Near Flagstaff Under Firefighter Control

Firefighters say they now have the upper hand on the Fisher wildfire, which broke out about five miles southeast of Flagstaff on Friday.

Spokeswoman Heather Noel says it was important for firefighters to get a quick start on the blaze, especially after the high winds they saw over the weekend.

“They really tied in and anchored the fire line into existing trails, roads and the previous Fisher Fire from last year,” Noel said.

She says forest officials meet on a regular basis to assess wildfire conditions. According to Noel, the lack of rain and snow this winter means the fire season could be especially difficult.
