Alcohol Powder Has Approval Revoked

There has been talk throughout the country about an alcohol powder that was approved for sale by a federal agency. But the Tempe company developing that product now says that its approval has been withdrawn.

The powder is called Palcohol. According to the company’s website, it can be added to liquids and foods to make them alcoholic.

It was developed by the Tempe-based Palcohol Company, Lipsmark LLC.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved the product on April 8. But Monday afternoon, the Palcohol website was updated to say there was a misunderstanding with the government agency.

There was a discrepancy over how much powder would be in each bag, so the approval was rescinded.

The company website now says it does not know when the new labels, or its product, will be approved and hit store shelves.
