High Winds Prompt Red Flag Warning For Parts Of Arizona

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for parts of central and southern Arizona for today.

Meteorologist Valerie Myers says wind busts up to 35 miles an hour combined with very low humidity mean the potential for a wildfire is very high.

“With the warmer and drier wind coming down off the higher terrain areas, we don’t have a lot of moisture to work with out there so the humidity levels have dropped considerably, down you know into the single digits,” Myers said.

She says the Red Flag warning is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., in an area from northern Maricopa County , west to La Paz and Yuma County and then again along the lower Colorado River Valley .
