Some good news for downtown Tempe. American Airlines will be keeping offices in the city for the next five years.

When US Airways merged with American Airlines last year, it promised to maintain a presence in Tempe, even though the new company’s headquarters would be moving to Ft. Worth, where American is based.

Now the company has announced that it has signed a five-year lease extension for the offices in Tempe where US Airways was headquartered.

As the merger between the two companies continues, some employees are being transferred to Fort Worth while others are being transferred to the Tempe site.  The number of employees in Tempe is believed to be fewer than the 750 US Airways had its peak.
