Interstate 10 through central Phoenix will be closed to traffic in both directions this weekend. ADOT encourages people to take I-17 as a primary detour.
Early Saturday morning, the Deck Park Tunnel will be closed from where I-10 meets I-17 on the west side and where it joins State Route 51 to the east. Both I-17 and state Route 51 will remain open all weekend. ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel said that part of I-10 will be shut down for utility work.
"APS has a power line project that’s been taking place along seventh street for a while but they’ve reached the point where they need to the new power lines above I-10 near seventh street…”
Nintzel said the work is happening while the Arizona Diamondbacks are in Chicago so there won’t be any traffic going to Chase Field. He said I-10 should be open in time for the Monday morning commute.
