Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

With more than four-million passengers moving through its terminals, the month of March was the busiest ever at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, officials said.

It’s the first time the airport has gone over four-million passengers in a single month, said Spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez. That number is three percent higher than passenger counts from March 2013.

"We think Spring Training, students on spring break, Arizona’s great weather – just tourism," she said. "We saw lots and lots of visitors in the Phoenix area this March."

Long term, airport officials are planning for continued growth. Rodriquez said planned renovations to Terminal 3 will expand security checkpoints and leave the possibility for more gates. That project won’t be finished until 2020.
