Three U.S. District Court of Arizona judges were confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Wednesday. This helps address a long standing judicial emergency.
Three of six nominees were approved - Steven Logan, John Tuchi and Diane Humetewa. Humetewa will be the first Native American woman to serve on the federal bench.
Arizona has one of the highest criminal caseloads in the country. The courts have been in an emergency situation since 2011. That declaration means the time limit for starting federal criminal trials was extended to 180 days.
