The growing scandal over deadly delays at the VA hospital in Phoenix has cost a high-ranking official his job.
The top official for veterans’ health care has resigned. Robert Petzel testified Thursday before the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs.
He, and his boss VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, faced tough questions over long waits for appointments, treatment delays and falsified records at several VA hospitals around the country.
This all started in Phoenix when whistleblowers said there was an effort to cover up the deaths of about 40 vets who died while waiting for care.
Back in September, Petzel announced his plan to retire in 2014.
