For the first time in a long time, all 29 of the Phoenix city pools will be open for business.
Park spokesman David Urbinato says Cortez Pool in west Phoenix was closed five years ago when a crack was discovered in the foundation.
“Cortez pool in Northwest Phoenix had major structural issues, it had a leak under it that really made the pool unusable, and for several years we had it closed while we accumulated the funding, developed the design and then over the past year we have finalized the design and crews got to work in January rebuilding the entire complex,” Urbinato said.
Other public pools have been closed on a rotating basis as a way for the city to save money. But this summer, the pools are fully funded. All 29 will be open to the public May 24. Cortez will hold a grand opening celebration on June 6 from 6-8 p.m.
