The pilot of a helicopter is dead after an accident at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot was re-positioning the helicopter, late Sunday, at the bottom of the Canyon when the accident happened. The FAA says the Eurocopter AS350 helicopter rolled onto its side, killing the pilot.
The accident took place near the Grand Canyon West airport, said Ian Gregor of the FAA. The Las Vegas Review-Journal says the helicopter was owned by American Helicopter LLC, based in King County, Washington.
The airport is operated by the Hualapai Indian tribe. A tribal spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The FAA says the National Transportation Safety Board arrived to investigate the crash this morning.
