Residents of Tonopah called for the resignation of their Maricopa County supervisor Wednesday. The group says Clint Hickman has a conflict of interest.
They’re unhappy with Hickman because his family business is building a new chicken ranch in the center of the town. Linda Butler is one resident leading the charge against Hickman Family Farms. She said Hickman isn’t fairly representing Tonopah residents.
“We have no one to help us. We have no one to talk to, to explain our problems or to direct us to any department who would be able to help us," said Butler.
Butler said she's concerned about how the two million chickens will affect property value, safety and health.
Hickman said he won’t resign. He also said he will continue to abstain from voting on issues involving the farm because it’s a clear conflict of interest.
A group of residents have filed lawsuits against Maricopa County and Hickman Family Farms.
