PAYSON, Ariz. — Crews are making progress against a forest fire burning in eastern Arizona.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest officials say the fire was reported Wednesday morning near Woods Canyon Lake. The location is about 30 miles east of Payson and about 20 miles west of Heber-Overgaard.

Containment of the fire as of Thursday was at 40 percent.

It had been reported Wednesday that the fire had grown to 150 acres, but it was estimated size was reduced to 88 acres as of Thursday.

Authorities say no structures are threatened, but several campers had to be evacuated from the area. No injuries have been reported.

Several firefighting crews, a tanker airplane and two helicopters assigned to the fire, with the helicopters dipping water from the lake.

The fire is believed to be human-caused.
