Man Shot After Charging Police With Screwdrivers, Saw

Phoenix police are investigating an officer-involved shooting after a man with a screwdriver and a saw threatened people on the city’s west side.

Sgt. Trent Crump says the incident began around 4 p.m., when the half-naked man began threatening some office workers and damaging property near the intersection of 19th Avenue and Missouri.

“There was a violent confrontation in the street with this individual as he was partially clothed. Our officers attempted to deploy Tasers that were ineffective,” Crump said.

Crump says that’s when the man allegedly charged one of the officers, and one of the officers fired one round at the man, striking him.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. No police officers were injured in the incident.
