Authorities say the alleged drug smuggler shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent in Tucson over the weekend is the same man recently arrested by Pima County Sheriff’s Deputies for drug trafficking.
Deputy Tracy Suitt says 31-year-old Jose Luis Arambula was taken into custody just a few weeks ago.
Saturday, Suitt says Arambula led police on a high-speed chase for 15 miles before stopping at a local golf club.
"The suspect drove his vehicle onto the golf course and came to a stop. The suspect fled his vehicle and was pursued by two Border Patrol agents," Suitt said.
Suitt says during the foot chase, a Border Patrol agent fired multiple shots at Arambula, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
