Avondale City Council Appoints New Mayor

Avondale has a new mayor: Kenneth Weise assumes the job, to finish out the term of his predecessor.

Weise will serve as Avondale’s mayor until the end of 2016. He takes over for Marie Lopez Rogers, who resigned last week to run for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. She’s trying to win the seat that was vacated by Mary Rose Wilcox, who’s running to replace retiring Rep. Ed Pastor.

Weise is a native of Illinois, and has lived in Avondale since 1995. He’s been on the city council since 2007, and served as Vice-Mayor between 2008 and 2010. His colleagues on the city council unanimously voted to appoint him mayor.
