The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors selected a new member Wednesday morning.
Marie Lopez Rogers was named the new county supervisor for District 5 which represents much of west Phoenix, the southwestern portion of Maricopa County and the town of Guadalupe.
Lopez Rogers is the former mayor of Avondale. She replaces long time supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox who had held the position for 22 years. Wilcox resigned to run for the congressional seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Ed Pastor.
This is the second appointment to the five member board in a little over a year. Clint Hickman was appointed last year to fill out the term of another supervisor who resigned for health reasons.
Under state law, both Hickman and Lopez Rogers will run for election in November. Whoever wins those district races will serve out the remainder of the four year terms until 2016.
