Attorney General Warns Of Telephone Scam

Attorney General Tom Horne is warning Arizona residents to be cautious of telephone scam artists posing as IRS employees. Horne says they are telling people a tax debit is owed and the payment should be made immediately.

“They are extremely aggressive,” Horne said. “They tend to target immigrants, threaten them with deportation and having their utilities turned off and having their driver’s licenses revoked.”

Horne says people should be cautious about providing payment information over the phone to anyone. He says the IRS will provide written notice about any taxes owed through the United States Mail.
