Bear Forces Closure Of Northern Arizona Campground

The Coconino National Forest is closing the Rock Crossing campground near Blue Ridge Reservoir after a bear damaged a camp trailer.

The campground hosts told the Arizona Daily Sun they were in their trailer Tuesday night when the bear scraped up the side and went after the hose inlet area.

They were eventually able to scare the animal off.

Arizona Game and Fish officers set traps Wednesday to capture the bear.

Mogollon Rim District Ranger Linda Wadleigh says the campground will be closed until authorities feel it's safe for campers to use it again.

In 2012, the Tonto National Forest was forced to close several campgrounds because of bear attacks near Payson.
