Arizona Sees First Human Case Of West Nile Virus This Year

The Pinal County Health Department says a Casa Grande man is recovering, after a bout with the disease. Spokesman Joe Pyritz says the case came as a surprise.

“Our vector control program has not seen any positives of West Nile virus through their trapping throughout the county and so this one kind of came up and snuck up on us,” Pyritz said.

Pyritz is urging people to eliminate areas of standing water near their homes and wear insect repellant that contains deet if they plan to be outside in the early morning or the evening hours.
