Junipine Fire Has Burned 12 Acres, Is 25 Percent Contained

For the second time this year, a wildfire is burning in Oak Creek Canyon , north of Slide Rock State Park . Coconino National Forest officials say the Junipine Fire has consumed about 12 acres and is 25 percent contained.

Spokesman Brady Smith says the blaze is burning toward the area already charred by the Slide Fire.

“We’re thinking it was caused by a downed power line,” Smith said. “There’s been a lot of winds in northern Arizona , so that wouldn’t be a surprise if that is the actual cause once that does come out.”

Smith says firefighters are working to keep the blaze on the west side of State Route 89-A, the side already burned in the Slide Fire.
