Friday is a big day for the Phoenix Coyotes, as the NHL team changes its name to the Arizona Coyotes, said spokesman Rich Nairn.
“We’re very excited that our franchise will change its name to Arizona Coyotes this week at the NHL draft in Philadelphia. It made sense for us to change our name because we play our games in Glendale and the city has been such a great partner of ours," Nairn said.
Nairn says fans won’t notice the change too much on the team’s uniforms. He says there will be a change in the shoulder patch, from "PHX Coyotes" to "AZ Coyotes," but otherwise the uniforms will remain the same.
The team’s website and social media sites will change beginning Wednesday.
