AAA Arizona says that if you are putting the finishing touches on beginning your Fourth of July holiday road trip this week, you are not alone. Spokeswoman Michelle Donati says consumer confidence in an improving economy is driving the increase in travel.
“Almost 800,000 Arizonans are projected to travel during the Fourth of July holiday,” Donati said. “That’s an increase of almost 1 percent from last year and it’s also 11 percent higher than travel for Memorial Day weekend.”
Donati says rising gas prices — up about a dime per gallon from this time last year — are not discouraging travel by car. She says almost 8 out of 10 traveling Arizonans are choosing a road trip over air travel.
