A voter registration drive Saturday marked the golden anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 at the Arizona State Capitol.
President of Phoenix First Families Frank Barrios says the signing of the Civil Rights Act holds historic significance.
“The constitution said all men are created equal, but it wasn’t until the civil rights act was signed that it made it so,” Barrios said.
The Civil Rights Act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Promise Arizona, along with local elected officials, attended the event.
